Does anyone have any advice on buying a car from a car auction?
Looking at buying a newish car, had a look British Car Auctions and the sort of car I want are a plenty.

Looking at a 2/3 year old BMW, possibly a 330D, would the saving be that great? Obviously most come with FSH and warranted mileage also. Budgets about 20K

So any advice would be great, Thanks.

Car auctions didn't seem to offer the same kind of discounts that they used to when i was looking a couple of years ago, several cars went for more than i paid a garage for mine?????

But would be interested in your experience if you go that route as i would be looking at a similar price ranged AUDI/BMW

I've bought from BCA. I bought a Porsche Cayenne and as it was just one of two for sale that day. Didn't get particularly cheap, it was just a very well specced one that a lease company were selling.
Loads of lease companies use BCA and they have Audi, BMW , VW days. So if you're after an A4 for example they'll be dozens there and you'll get a good deals. The day I went was a BMW day . If you're after something more rare you won't get the best deal.

Most of the cars have FSH and one owner.

Be mindful they own We buy any car now so stay away from those cars and go on the days where they're selling cars on behalf of lease companies.

don't forget to factor in the buyers premium which can add quite a bit to the hammer price plus the trade like to bid up the punters, they can pay more than you because the fees are lower with a trade account.

It's about £850 on a 20k as a punter

there are some traders that will bid on your behalf for a fee , never used one but you're unlikely to be singled out like you are at BCA, I bought a catalogue but when she gave it to me mine was bright yellow where all the trade ones were white so I was marked from the start

I watched a guy who'd come specifically for a merc convertible get bid up by a trader because it went over what he was prepared to pay, I doubt he saved much if anything at all, the trader even put his hand up as he walked out of the hall in a final fudge you knowing he'd just cost the guy another £200

British Car Auctions

AVAL send all there lease cars to BCA auctions.

My friends a trader and only pays something like £25 in fees on any car bought. He said there isn't as much profit to be had these days.
