Ha, I think that guy has underlying issues way beyond the guitar.

We are going away for the weekend so I won't get on the guitar until Sunday evening.

Well reevsey, I've decided to split my learning path and use the PC version of Rocksmith alongside the other tutorials and stuff that I'm currently using.

I'll keep you informed.

did see you posted in that section going to keep plugging away at me acoustic I think..

did look at rocksmith....also wondered how much you have to look at the screen in relation to looking where your fingers are going etc...suppose it's not much different from watching online vids.

I think users will be looking at the neck to start, but that should pass when they get familiar with both the system and the neck.

Yep, no different really in the beginning to looking at tab in a book or videos.

At the very start with Rocksmith, you'll find you only get one note every 10-20 seconds in the E or A strings, which gives you plenty of time in between to look and see where your fingers are. Long term though, it's could for encouraging you to play without looking at your hands, which eventually just sort of creeps up on you without noticing!

Yeah, there's a Ducks mini game that helps in that regard, you have to shoot ducks going up the screen before they get to the top by playing a note at the same fret the duck came from. Gets you used to moving up and down the neck without thinking about it.

Does this also familiarise users as to where the actual  notes on the fretboard?

Rocksmith won't teach you what and where the notes are, unfortunately. It's just tells you what string and what fret, like tab.

If you want to learn the notes on the neck, you have to use other resources.

I only really know the notes on the low E (and therefore the high E) and the A string, which is useful to know for power chords or barre chords. The rest I can work out, but don't know them by heart.

don't know why but the few times I've looked at tab I struggle to get my head round it

I tend to have scraps of paper about everywhere with song layouts....what chord and for how many bars etc etc

been trying for a week now to get the strumming pattern to live forever nice and smooth and not robotic

Im with you on that.

I can figure it out but not quickly.

I tend to find chord sheets are more useful rather than tabs, unless it's individual riff notes I'm after.

As a side note, switching between the acoustic and the electric, I find the latter much easier and more accurate.
