Had a wander round ikea the other day and spotted a desk / workstation that seams almost perfectly designed for musicians.

Needless to say I bought one ! Lol.

It's called a FREDDE, and costs £150.

It's big enough for dual 27" screens, plenty of room for accessories to plug into, and best of all it has little 'ears' / shelves which are adjustable and perfect for monitor placement.

With a comfortable cut out so you can sit close with your elbows supported, cable hooks and even cup holders, it makes for a very practical if somewhat large desk for your studio.

I've just finished putting it together... So here's some pics.

Looks great Jules, nice setup you have there. I bought a Micke desk for my PC the other week, they do make some well designed units. I'm a bedroom short of having a dedicated studio at the minute, bloody kids for you!

Looks nice, but the speakers seem to be way too far apart, ideally you should be sitting in a triangle with the monitors facing you.

With this desk, I've just managed to create the setup I've always dreamt of where my full 88 key midi controller sits underneath my monitors with my mouse and keyboard still comfortable to use.

I took the stands off 2 samsung 24" monitors so I could raise the middle shelf and have them still fit, thus giving the midi controller room to slide in underneath.  And by a freak coincidence the width is 'just' wide enough, so it fits in really snuggly.

This ikea desk is proving perfect.  Now I don't have to spin my chair round to play...which also means I get to monitor the sound properly as I play.

And my PC of course could I please ask what the depth of the shelves and where the PC tower goes underneath what is the max height please? Thanks so much for your time.

@Jules Damn wish I'd seen this before I bought my Ikea Malm with pull-out panel!

Just a quick question too, I see from your picture DanoS4 and from similar home-studio setups I've seen that people have a lot of outboard gear and synths etc stacked up but I often wonder where you plug them all in and where you make the connections to your audio interface?

I have a very basic setup at the moment using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 interface and a couple of synths (Korg MS 20 Mini and some old Casio's) but I would like to get much more and have them all stacked and connected/plugged in permanently so I don't have to keep connecting and disconnecting things and be able to record multiple sources at once. Unfortunately behind my desk is just one double socket, so in order to power all my computer and music gear, I have had to plug in two 10-socket extension leads which I know probably isn't very safe or efficient (although I've had no problems so far and they do have surge protection).

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, only just seen this.
All of my line outputs from synths/outboard, terminate in my interfaces - I've got 2 MOTU 828 interfaces (running in aggregate mode with the SSL). This gives me 16 analogue inputs that can be called up in Logic etc.
