Now that is one desk I'd have certainly considered if I still needed something, I love the spacing and style there.

Mine is pretty much a bodge job of a piece of large ish board, 4 bits of 2x2 and some screws, but it seems to do the job (I had tried to add a cheap monitor to it, it was an old dell, but it messed up all the settings of the other monitor when I managed to get it to work. I think I'd need to newer identical monitors to get the kind of setup that would be ideal.):

I don't know how you guys get away with having so much gear in the house. By amazing coincidence I have just had a new desk/shelf thingy done this weekend. There's a radiator against the wall, so it is vented at the rear so it still heats the room. I've only just put the gear on it so excuse the general untidiness of the cabling.

I mainly play and compose, rather than mix music - I am only just getting into the recording aspect of it, but this arrangement is excellent for playing.

Yes and no.
I moved house a while back and had less room, so now I have the speaker shelves pointing inside the unit.  That meant no room for dual monitors anymore, so I have a 27" iMac in there now.

With the lower shelf removed, there is about 3 inches of clearances above the iMac, but it won't fit with lower shelf in place.

Sadly, without the lower shelf in place I can no longer fit the 88 note keyboard underneath.

Swings and roundabouts I guess.
Its still a great desk .. especially with the speaker shelves which make it ideal for monitoring and mixing in small room.  Its comfortable to work at too.

Jules you are my only hope. I see that you previously mentioned raising the middle shelf (in which your monitors sit)...how on earth did you manage to raise it? I can't find anything online, I tried to just wing it thinking it would be easy and had no luck.

I am about to get my carpenter mate to do me a custom desk for my man cave/ studio. Going to go for a super long standard height desk for iMac and 49 key midi controller, a raised shelf to hold x2 Technics 1200, new Denon X1800 mixer, (eventually Denon SC5000 players) x1 KRK. And a raise platform for the other KRK..

The Ikea unit came with adjustable metal shelf supports to cater for it.   The metal frame into which the shelf supports 'slot in' has a number of slots at various heights.

It's a pain to adjust, but if you have one of these units you should be able to achieve it with the bits that come with it.

Sorry i don't visit here much anymore.  My home studio is still active for personal use, but I now run my own business which includes some audio post production, so I have a different set up at the office.

I think Ikea have discontinued the Freddie desk, so I've had to make use of a regular desk at work.
I don't really do any keyboard work in the office, but if I did I'd be looking for the same desk again or custom build one.
