Not in any way relevant to the current thread but have you had a complete change of heart over Corbyn?

Planning regulations are really good now in terms of fire safety (in my part of the world at least), but there's clearly a huge retrospective issue to look at based on what we've seen here.

Fair point.  It was implied, but not said in the links in the last few posts that the non-rock wool (ie foam) was within spec in the UK, but worth looking into.

Good point, the finger may well end up pointing at whoever signed off the work as passing inspection.

Indeed, there's an awful lot of questions to be answered. I worked for many years with passive firestopping, cladding and building envelope not my forte though, and it's scary how requirements can be met with installs that are just plain dangerous. Not to mention installs carried out incorrectly, 'fire rated' foam was often used by itself, when it only ever achieved a fire rating when used in conjunction with a layer of fire resistant mastic.
With what you said there about the foam it could very well be the same thing here, and come down to installation error by missing a vital component in creating a fire seal.

Some worried people about I should imagine. Legal firms will be rubbing their hands in anticipation.

Not really but I have taken the time to look into how Corbyn has conducted himself over the last 40 years (the good and the bad) and formed a neutral view of him (I have specific reasons as to why I didn't vote for him in the leadership contests, but that's not relevant here). Which is why I'm not surprised about his reaction to the fire and that he's started to ask questions others I assume don't want to be asked. But those directly impacted by the disaster probably want answered. Also I've never had time to get into right and left wing ideological spats. I find them to be counter productive and more often than not "My team is better than your team" puerile style debates.

I am angry about what's happened, but I'm not letting that anger cloud my judgement. I'm quietly looking at all the reports that are coming in, feeling sad for those who've lost their lives, but also keeping an open mind about the precise causes for the disaster.

When this happened a lot of the reports said it was "unprecedented" it may never happen again.
Apparently she's doing it now. Maybe that was the plan, maybe it's social media lead. So essentially you want people standing in front of angry people. Would you like stocks as well?
They have been burned out of their house. I could probably guess at that. She did get first hand knowledge of what was needed. Anyway she is visiting so happy?
1. Not fast enough. They were treating the fire and the casualties now.

Sometimes you need to rush purchase stuff that isn't budgeted for. Stuff you haven't got. You might think you have to go with what you have and make do.

Someone turns up, say's what do you want? You tell them, the money is found and you have it. That means having someone high enough to suddenly fork out potentially millions. I've known it happen.

Personally I'd find that far more useful.

2. No one does what a journalist says. People do what their boss says.
Hey you want to put the caps lock on feel free. Yep I've lived in all sorts of places.
I think she was sorting out what needed to be actually done and not just glamming up for the cameras. Initially the world and his dog was there. Corbyn, Sadiq, journalists, then royals. Should there be a conveyor belt to fit everyone in? Were the LibDems and Ukip there?  And again, having "briefings" just aren't enough. You admit that yourself.

Council planning/building inspectors are notorious for operating on a 'who you know' basis, I don't think it matter whereabouts in the country you are or what colour rose you wear where 'favours' are concerned.

There'll be some sweaty palms for sure.

Which is why her absence is so noted. I don't think it's unfair to expect the 'leader' of the government to be the first offering 'heartfelt' condolences at the scene, especially after her massive fall from public favour these last few weeks. You can defend it any way you like but it's another massive PR failure; those new advisers don't seem to be any better than the last ones
