So why do the Western
media not show videos of the violent protesters attacking innocents?

Peaceful protesting is fine, but when they are dressed up in riot gear and actively looking for people to attack I have no sympathy if they get put down and these are the protesters I'm referring to.

It's laughable that they want democracy, but if anyone disagrees with them they beat the crap out of them.

Bill or no bill. China do that already. It's not right, but what can we do, but does that mean you can go round trashing the country and beating up anyone with opposing views?

There is no non violent means of change available.

They cannot vote for change

They cannot legislate or use the law to bring about change

Peaceful protest has done nothing for months.

Do you suggest they just go home and accept their fate?

The violence is necessary because there is no means of non violent self determination left.

It is now a fight to the death for Hong Kong as it is, and for the way of life than Hong Kong citizens have enjoyed their whole lives.

Literally the standard operating policy of the CCP.

I can't help but feel that the protesters are walking a tightrope that's getting thinner.  If it wasn't for the fact that Hong Kong is a financial and tourist centre, China would be coming down harder.

If and when China tighten its grip, HKers will need outside support.  I hope they get it.

They won't get anything.  No Western nation is going to go up against China over HK.  It's a disgrace really. They bang on about freedom, democracy, and liberty but only when such things can be delivered with no financial consequences.

The youth will get more violent until the moderates push back and demand more authoritarianism to protect them from the anarchy. At that point, China wins, the two systems dies, and many many people disappear.

I think the only realistic option that the UK can do is offer citizenship and asylum for HK residents

They have never had democracy, even under British rule and they certainly won't get it under China.

The only option if they don't like it is leave.

That's their best personal option, but it isn't their only option. They can fight to the death.  Better to stand for something than live for nothing.

Out of interest, where would they leave to?

Never gonna happen and why would we want to accept these rioters into our country?

Because they literally cherish our values so highly they're willing to die for them.

Precisely the sort of people we should want.  Highly educated, English speaking, and willing to fight to the death for a liberal democracy.

Asylum seekers really don't come any better than that.
