well,of course, there needs to be a relentless campaign to close all off shore trust funds and dodgy avoidance schemes to such an extent there would be no place to hide. Asset confiscation could be another option

actually it is somewhat ironic the DM  produced that article because one of the reasons the owners of the media outlet are so keen on Brexit is because they know the EU is set on closing all off shore trust funds whereas the government does not want that.It looks more and more as though it wants to turn this country into some kind of low tax haven

I also have doubts as to the worth of some of the stars. Is it down to having a good agent and being a good BBC career person?
Would they be paid more or less in the private commercial broadcasting sector. For instance, Gary Lineker, for example, might be able to command that salary on ITV or Sky. But Claudia Winkleman?
Nothing against her personally, but I don't think she would be able to get that salary in the free market. Might be down to connections at the BBC and the fact that the BBC doesn't have to look at a profit sheet to decide if they are worth it.

Personally, I think the best way of ensuring a celeb doesn't salt his millions away without paying tax on them is not to give them to him in the first place.  Sure they could go out into the free market, but if say ITV knew that the Beeb had just slashed their pay 10 fold, what sort of deal are they likely to offer? Not back in the millions I wouldn't think.

i watch far more Beeb than I do any other channel, in fact as it is a public service I feel a kind of loyalty towards it .Those salaries are too high but then when I think  about Paul Dacre's £1500000 for editing a propaganda /gossip rag then it convinces me it is time to introduce the measures I suggested

But if Lineker wasn't on MOTD would the ratings be affected? - surely people watch MOTD for the football and not the presenter.

Of greater importance is it's time for the TV license to move away from being mandatory.

Do we know if these people like Lineker are on PAYE? I would strongly suspect they are on IR35, in which case LGS's tax confiscation potential would be limited.

Unlikely, and of course the BBC only pay part of his total income, although I imagine it's the larger part.
