It was hardly an "open door" policy.  It was more like an unstoppable tidal wave of desperate people.  If you have a solution to what to do with tens of thousands of frightened people all arriving at once, then please do share.
Letting them fester and die in filthy, inhumane conditions is an option most in Europe would find unacceptable, BTW.

Maajid Nawaz- a former extremist himself has written quite an interesting piece.
He says we will never be able to kill our way out of this phenomenon.

We need to look at our Muslims at home who are being radicalised.

We must prevent these activists from gaining platforms in our education system. We must regulate private Islamic schools, which is where many teenagers are groomed away from scrutiny.

And then there are the jails, where thousands of prisoners have been radicalised.

But the key point is this. It is essential that we create a new generation of English-speaking, British-based imams, who not only understand the Koran, but also understand – and live – British values.

They are only using Islam as a recruitment tool, IRA used to do the same with Catholic faith, neither are organisations of any faith.

If we become openly active in military terms in Syria, I won’t be surprised if there is some dialogue between the two, maybe already.

Always agree with his take on deradicalisation, but surprised he's written for the rag that was trying to smear him not so long ago over his strip club antics on his stag night, let alone it's "RightMinds" section.

They are Muslims, as much as a guy down the pub drinking beer who is a Muslim, you don't get to decide.
This claim of no true Muslim, is the same one used by ISIS to recruit and create some moral high ground, it's bullocks when it's said by them, and it's bullocks when said by you.

Muslims don't come in a box labelled good or bad, individuals can be judged based on their views and actions as good or bad, but that doesn't change their religious affiliation.

What we need to do in the UK and the West, is enforce our culture, law and rules regardless of religion.
We let the views expressed by the more extreme elements of Islam in the UK go without being checked, contrast this to if they were say a political organisation the difference is stark, we have a laissez faire treatment of religion that must stop.

Freedom of religion, does not trump national decisions, laws decided by our elected representatives, nor would I say our wider cultural norms, which many conservative never mind extreme Muslims find abhorrent.

There must be an understanding, no one asked any migrant to live here, if it is not to their liking feel free to move. Otherwise integrate.

When it comes to British born Muslims, we need to rout out ideas that are against British ones, we need to be more muscular in what the expression of freedom of religion is, it does not mean cartblaunch, nor does it mean that this one  freedom is elevated above all others.

Religion like everything else must live within the law, so if your religion says you can take slaves or kill someone because they are not your religion/sect, the law says otherwise.
If your religion says women should be treated differently, or homosexuals should be stoned/thrown from a tower, while in the UK it is wrong (the idea is wrong, not just the action).
I don't see any evidence we're even attempting a counter narrative, at schools and universities, repugnant and simply anti british ideas swapped, shared and encouraged, we need to put a stop to it.

I can understand those born elsewhere have views they've grown up with ones that find everything the west stands for is wrong, what is not acceptable this those views continue to held (change them or ship out), what is certain is that they damn well shouldn't be spread to the next generation.

I heard it on one of the BBC reports on the TV. So it would have been early day's.

Perhaps if the west stopped blowing the snot out of their country's they wouldn't want to leave? Now theirs a thought. And they stop being desperate people the very second they step onto a safe European country far from their tyranny and danger and refuse to claim asylum there instead choosing to run to their own personal choice of European country.

That's not the main reason why they want to leave.  It's the religious persecution by and violence from their own countrymen that they are fleeing (mostly).

Perhaps part of some behind the scenes apology. Also, it makes sense for him to reach out to a wider audience. I think he speaks the most sense on radical Islam of any commentator today. I found the whole Tommy Robinson conversion fascinating.

With all due respect, you need to do so research into the conflict and what has happened over the last four years before commenting with such ignorance. It has nothing to do with Western intervention, but more to do with sectarian brutality.

Calling that 'a thought' is probably overstating matters.
