If you set the heat say on more than a set amount of times at the same time over a few days it learns that... If that makes sense. I dont own yet but I think thats right.. It also has a movement sensor to tell if your in or not..

Jouster... When you ordered from nest could you set your own install date? or did you have a few dates to select?

Oh, you'd be fine then.  Just set it to water and radiators, set the timer to on all the time and let the nest do the rest.

Anyone else having problems getting an installation booked?

My Nest arrived Friday and I registered it on the Nest site fine. Was given a confirmation number and told that my install would be by HomeServe. Only given the option of morning or afternoon preference, but no date or number to call given.

I called HomeServe who denied all knowledge of doing Nest installations.

I called Nest who told me I had done everything correctly, but couldn't offer any advice on what to do next!

It looks lovely and I can act out scenes from 2001 (HAL), but that isn't really what I got it for.

It is not battery operated, but eh desk stand gives you the opportunity to power it from a regular mains socket. With full time wifi on board it was never going to be practical to use batteries. None of these smart systems have a main controller that is battery powered, even the Evo Touch controller only uses batteries to allow short periods of programming to be carried out off the mains charger base or wall mount.

Your existing battery powered stat is most likely only transmitting for a very small period once every 5 minutes or so, so the power-hungry RF transceiver is in a standby state most of the time. This is certainly what the Honeywell RF battery powered kit does to make the batteries last and is why they don't use technologies like Z-Wave or Zigbee whre the batteries would need replacing every few months rather than every few years.

Have been waiting for this for ages.
Very impressed with the ordering and install process so far.

Ordered 2 at 930 on Wednesday and chose the standard install NOT express.
At 945 got a phone call from installers and booked in for this Tuesday am.
Nest shipped on Thursday and arrived yesterday on Friday.

I've got 4 of the Protects around the house which also communicate with the Thermostats and sense movement.

Now just hoping the install goes well.
Would advise anyone interested to grab one before the £70 promo runs out.

Nest Thermostat finally arrives in the UK for £179, partners with npower - CNET

Have a read of the comments at the end there seems to be a issue else where with HomeServe unless you posted that.

Not me but interesting to see others also having issues booking an installation.

Nest were friendly but didn't actually help.

I'll try again Monday if I've heard nothing.
