I got an email today from nest about installation. Sounds like they have sold more than expected and are struggling to arrange installations.
If I haven't heard anything by the weekend I'll try and DIY it. Had a look at instructions and my current thermostat and it doesn't look to bad of a job. I can use existing thermostat wires and just need to add a live and neutral for the heat links power supply.

Had the install this morning and finally have Nest. Install was booked by Nest with a local independent and have to say he was brilliant!

I was having two installed and was a bit worried about where the two heat links would get placed as I like everything hidden. Pleased to say he put them in the airing cupboard totally out of view and the wifi works a treat. Not only that but he did a very neat job and was very helpful.

Initial impressions are very positive. I love the way it lights up when you walk past (you can turn this off)

The Nest itself looks great and the settings are really impressive and very easy to use. App works well and I'm used to it as I've had Nest Protect for some time now.

Will see how the learning period goes over the next 7 days

No the protects work fine. They have simply disabled the wave feature that allowed you to cancel and alert by waving. Never used that feature anyway but product works fine. Nest said they will restock with new products that have the feature disabled.

I assume they we re an able with firmware when ready.  I want to get some to go with thermostat but it's a lot of cash as each one is £109.  And I need 4. And they need replacing every 5,6 or 7 years I think

Kind of thinking they'll do a house alarm sometime too
