Based on my experience, its better to cut out foods that create an insulin response. Such as refined sugars, bread and rice. Stick to organic meats and and vegetables, replace potatoes rice and bread with sweet potato and other starchy vegetables. Refined sugar is a big no no as it will cause insulin levels to rice which then causes wait gain.

Well.... Theres the answer to your question. Pizza has refined carbs, i.e. BREAD. Some Pizza can have your whole days calorie in just one pizza. Stick to organic meats and fresh organic vegetables and the wight will strip off you.

The water can help but it won't make a massive difference to weight loss, but it can help you're overall health. But I think 6l a day is way too much, you must spend half the day running to the toilet!
Try sprinkling a teaspoon of cinnamon over your meals. It controls the insulin response so you don't tend to get the spikes or the cravings after.
I think you need to up your protein intake as that helps with fast loss, drop the pizza and hit the weights for big compound exercises and smash out High Intensity Interval Training...

Search google for water cuts, it's not advisable for basic fitness tests, which every member of the military should be able to pass.

Either it's something you're serious about doing and you get your phys done, stop eating pizzas, do more phys and pass the tests. Or it's not something that means enough to you and it's time to rethink your goals.

I make no apologies for the harsh tone, the military is no place for anything less than 100% commitment, without that you let down the blokes stood either side of you.

What's with the fear of insulin? Lol! Carbs do not make you fat, a calorie surplus does.

You can still have some pizza and lose weight as long as your calories are under your daily intake.
I lost (and maintained) a 4 stone loss with all of the "taboos" I ate before going to bed, I didn't eat breakfast, I ate carbs (sending my insulin up, oh nos)... But I was in a calorie deficit.
Don't get me wrong, I ate well most of the time, but there are no secrets and shortcuts, water intake, carb restrictions, fat restrictions etc . etc, they all do the same thing, but in a different package!

EDIT: For anyone interested, this guy seriously knows his stuff...

6 ltrs is too much, and besides you cant absorb that much in a day so most will just get peed out (your body sees it as a toxin). This can actually make your body work worse and that will affect your real life.

30 mins a day of running is not going to help that much either, add some body weight movements and even train twice a day if you are that keen. Here are some examples:

Beginner Body Weight Workout - Build Muscle, Burn Fat | Nerd Fitness

Read this article regarding diets, ultimately you have to eat less in order to lose weight:

All Diets Work: The Importance of Calories : BodyRecomposition

If all else fails just be active all day every day, go for walks, dont sit for more than 10 mins etc. If you get in the Army this will be your world through training, long, active days plus PT plus inspections, bull nights etc.

Ok thanks for the advice. I only started the water intake last week as my recruiting Sgt told me to increase the water as this will help my bmi to lower and just eat sweet potato and chicken until my medical is over. As if today I'm down to 15st 6.  My running is at 30mins at the moment I'm working on that c25k app. Also been advice not to bother with weight until after medical as I'll increase my bmi.

I doubt your recruiting Sgt is a qualified nutritionist and should definitely not be giving you this advice. In fact, he/she should be reported for this ridiculous and potentially dangerous guidance.

You would be unlikely to gain any significant muscle mass from lifting weights, but you will burn more calories. Additionally, your body will work better when you start training.

You need green veggies plus fruit too, these are packed full of vitamins and fibre. This will aid digestion and other body functions.
