As there is a big drive to reduce salt in everything, it wouldn't surprise me if the products we know and love don't last as long in the future.

Year out of date chocolate bars are fine and the same for a few of the biscuit type bars.

Plenty of sauces, spices etc in our house that are years out of date and still get used.

I was once doing some decorating for an old couple, and for some bizarre reason they gave me some tins of food (as well as the money, luckily for me!). One of the tins was some kind of fish, I think it was pilchards, that had an expiry date of 1964. This was around 2000, so a good 35 years ood. I binned them without opening the tin, though I wish I had now just to see if they were still ok.

I ate a rusty tin of sausage rolls. Or rather a small corner of one, literally just the pastry and gave the rest to the dogs as it was only luke warm - didn't know how to use a gas oven.

Gave me salmonella food poisoning and put me in hospital. Worse experience of my life.

Like your style, leaving it there as a reminder of how rank it is and never to buy it again.
