Dogs are pretty much immune to a wide variety of bacteria that would kill us stone dead; they are carrion eaters.

Rusted tins and semi sealed jars (ones that pop when you push the lid) are a big no no , you could get botulism which is very likely to be lethal by the time you realise you are unwell ( assuming you haven't lost your wits in the meantime).

It will be. IIRC honey is one of the few foods that never go off. Salt is another.

If a Sandwich that consists of meat is made and that meat is off. Then surely one should beable to smell and see the meat is off before making it into a Sandwich and spitting it out because it is so rank ?

I know that's why I mentioned it. They've found honey in an egyptian tombs that hadn't gone off which is truely remarkable.

It was at an old farmhouse owned by a friend of my mothers when I was young. I suspect it was pretty old even then. It was back in the seventies, but we always used to have Fray Bentos steak and kidney pies, so not unusual to have a pie in a tin - those were lovely at the time, but I was rightly suspect about the sausage rolls. Don't know if I had actually tucked into them, whether it would have made things worse, but I literally only nibbled the pastry in the corner of one and they were not properly hot, so decided against them.

Stayed in bed for about five days keeping nothing down at all. With the usual - see how you are in the morning by my mother! Then the doc came out and sent me straight to the hospital. With my fear of needles, I soon starting drinking water and was discharged before they had to 'intervene'. Phew!
