So they can chop/destroy more forests to make the bags?

Trees can be replanted.

Forests are renewable.

Hmmm I will remember that when the rain forests are gone.   If the bags are from recycled paper and or renewable forests then I agree but I'm not convinced they all would be

I left the bright yellow tag on the big brown bin on Tuesday, another roll was left but amusingly yesterday, I saw the exact yellow tag on the ground a bit further down the road, still usable, therefore entitling me to a bonus roll.

Or if you have the patience, roll the whole roll down the stairs till the tag comes out.

We have to pay for our degradable bags.

What an utter waste of time this little bin and it's bigger counterpart are!

There is absolutely no way that the contents of 1 small bag full of food waste can even be worth the 11p cost of the bag required to hygenically keep the food in the caddy.

We did a survey in our street and found that only about 20% of our neighbours are bothering doing this - and neither will we, after we have used the 10 or so bags left on the rest of the degradable roll.

If you happen to leave taking out the small caddy's bag within a reasonable time frame, then it will degrade within the caddy. I have lost two bags, which went 'full of holes' on me and I then had to carefully mess about transferring the rotten bag into a second one for the transfer into the bigger caddy.

What a waste of bags! What a waste of my money! What a stupid system! What a stupid scheme! What stupid council officials!

The whole thing of this food waste scheme fuelling power generation is an utter silly fiasco!

Hi Begonia:

What we have learnt to do through trial and error is line the little brown caddy with a plastic bag and when full with food waste take the bag out and empty it into the larger brown caddy outside. The used and empty plastic bag then is dumped into the general waste black bin and a new plastic bag put into the little brown caddy.

The larger brown waste food caddy outside is lined with sheets of the free Northampton local newspaper (I think it's called 'The Herald & Post').

... That's the system we've been using for the food waste and it seems to work.

Many years ago we had perfect re-cycling of glass. Pop bottles were taken back to the shop to redeem your penny deposit and empty milk bottles were left on your doorstep for the milkman to take away. In both cases the bottles were sterilised and used again. And again. And again.
Now everything is plastic and politicians are paying lip service to the great God of "global warming". If they were actually serious they would go back to re-using things like bottles and come down hard on food packaging. I bought a swede last week and the bloody thing was shrink wrapped ***.
Until this sort of crap stops i'm not playing this game. I recycle nothing.

I just use the caddy as a bucket and empty it into the bin multiple times throughout the day.

Our organic waste bin is a massive brown wheely bin; we don't have to bag the trash as recomended by the council.

However after a particularly hot spell I noticed the bin was beginning to reek.

I wasn't going to resort to paying the £25 the mobile bin cleaner charges so waited until after collection day to hose the thing out in the back garden , luckily I have a drain grate on the property.

Total horror It was like something out of CSI. Chicken carcass had got stuck to the bottom of the bin and had not survivied multiple emptyings.

I dumped some bleach in and boiling water. Then an army of huge fat maggots charged up the side of the bin and I'm frantically hosing them back down.

After the massacre I had to fasion a chicken wire scoop to scrape and seive the rotten carcass out of the bleachy maggot soup so it wouldn't block the drain.

Now we wrap all the food in bio degradable rubbish bags which we have to buy before it goes into the bin , this is acceptable according to the council.

I agree with you but I don't go as far as you do as I assume that any packaging from the supermarkets is recycleable so it goes in the recycling bin

If you buy an own label pizza from Sainsbury it comes on a cardboard platter but if you buy one from their deli counter the platter is polystyrene - why?
