Anyone who is having a professional chef cook for them in their own home isn't going to have it on their knee watching Eastenders.
If you have a dinner party at home with some friends wouldn't you and your wife make the effort to dress well. She could still have her hair done and put her posh dress on. It's not like you'll have to tidy up afterwards.

I understand what you mean about having a servant (I mean paid cook) prepeare the meal so you can host the swanky party with your Iceland nibbles

sounds like its working to me and i'd just go for it.

pricing I wouldnt worry about, it surprises me that people on these very forums dont appreciate some people have "more money than sense", and if you mind the pun "No sense of taste"

so even if your food tastes like crap and you charge £100 a head, you will still find some high flyers asking for your service, and none of the guests would complain as to not upset the host.

I say just go for it, I couldnt afford it, but others dont value £50 like I do.

if i were you id aim for home catering for garden parties/weddings at home etc

That's quite an insulting comment as you are assuming that just because the idea doesn't suit you then anyone who does like it has "more money than sense" and it reminds me of Oscar Wilde's definition of a cynic being "A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing"

A service like the one being discussed will be heavily promoted by word of mouth and personal recommendation and if the "food tastes of crap" the business will die on it's feet.

A friend of the family had something similar a few years ago on Christmas Day.

Was absolutely no where near £50 a head.

However, I would absolutely be interested in something like this if it was a more reasonable price. I think something along Ian J's pricing structure would be far more acceptable, but as with everything in life you can't place an exact price across the board as it would surely depend on the selection.

i.e. some form of pork (which is available in abundence) dish would be far cheaper than say a lobster or cavier dish.
