The last game that really made an impression on me was the original Tombraider.  What I liked most about it was the puzzle element and large environments.
When Uncharted came out I hoped it would be the next evolution but it was crippled by the gunfighting. Every step another shootout. It's the puzzling that made Tombraider stand out and this was completely subdued in Uncharted.
The next one was another original version and that was Driver on PS1. Just great fun, graphics and simple fun driving with impressive physics. Would buy that original again with next gen graphics....just fabulous

Think mine was GTA 3 when it was released on PS2.
Couldn't believe a game with that amount of depth (for its time) and freedom was possible.

The last game that impressed me was Unkilled on mobile. Utterly surprised with how console quality it was, and I Bluetooth my phone to my surround system for a bombastic experience. Actually, add Ire: Blood Memory to the impressed mobile list. It's like Dark Souls. Oh, and Dungeon Hunter 5 for a real rpg experience. Christ, no wonder my girlfriend says I give her no attention.

Yep. This is the last game I REALLY enjoyed and wanted to get back to whenever I had a spare moment. I hardly use my consoles anymore despite wasting money on new titles. I fire them up and think MEH

Despite its general lack of software I've still found a few on Wii U that have really impressed me:

Lego City Undercover was pure fun from start to finish and it's the one game this gen that I've played through multiple times. It's genuinely funny too.

Splatoon successfully managed to bring a fresh experience to online shooters. The single player, while short, was full of inventive level design and puzzles.

Yoshi's Woolly World almost matched the incredible SNES original for level design and character. Looked gorgeous too. Definitely my favourite 2D platformer since the original Yoshi's Island.

Deus Ex Human Revolution was bought on a whim and ended up my favourite game on the Wii U. Absolutely amazing experience and I can't wait for the sequel.

Affordable Space Adventures is probably the only game besides Zombi U to really use the GamePad well, and is a surprisingly deep adventure for an Indie game. Great fun with three people.

Has to be The Last of Us. It made all other games feel extremely mediocre for a few months after.

Yes I agree. I've played it again on the PS4 and while not quite as good for me second time around, I've still not matched for experience. I had high hopes for Batman Arkham Knight but it just feels like going through the motions. Currently playing Forza 6 which I'm enjoying but looking for that next game to truly lose myself in.
