Looking for a phone for 12 year old

I totally understand and I get that but I have since spoken to her and showed her a few phones and she actually likes them and as these have multiple camera lenses she was very excited. I’ve been looking at the Redmi 7 pro or 8 just now so will probably buy one of them but I obviously want to buy the best performance and if the make is reliable

Does a 12yr old need a high performance, high Spec’d phone? Doubt it

Will they notice the difference in benchmark tests? Nope

Not saying to go for Apple but performance and benchmarks don’t really apply in some cases

I bought my mum a Samsung A50 recently and it's proven to be a decent reliable phone with a good choice of cases and protective screens, which for a tween/teen is a must. The first phone I bought for my eldest was a mid priced Sony and there were very few options for cases, I ended up changing the screen on that 3 or 4 times.
Since then, for the kids I have only bought phones that have decent cases (tech21 have proven to be great) and decent screen protectors for the kids.

There are so many mid-priced options out there I wish you the best of luck.

It's worth looking on the classifieds here which is where I have bought all of the phones in my household.

Oh tell me about it, Ive replaced over a dozen screens on both my daughters iPhones, doesn’t matter how many cases they have they always take them off and as soon as they do, they drop the thing.

I have felt that pain, mine will argue it's not their fault even if they do take the case off!
I found that making them save up to pay for the new screen meant they kept the case on more often. Especially now they have Samsung's as they can't get a £25 fake Samsung screen like they can with iPhones.

i would personally avoid the note 8 pro as it has a different processor to the note 8. mediatek as opposed to the more efficient Snapdragon. probably hence bigger battery in the pro to compensate for the less efficient processor. the note 7, 7 pro and 8 are all great phones. i have no reason to believe reliability would be worse than my note 5.

we have three Xiaomi phones in the family and they are by far the best phones we've owned in terms of value for money, build quality and reliability. my Xiaomi redmi note 5 is super reliable, very smooth running the latest android. great cameras, it has features found in much more expensive iphones such as face unlock and more.

the note series has always been great value for money. i dont think there is a better value phone out there. the only thing it doesn't have is the apple brand name which many apple users buy. i have friends who want an iphone 11 even before seeing one or knowing what the specs are, just because of the brand name..

Was speaking to the girls mum today and I think she wants an iPhone more importantly because of the bullies at school.

I think I get the sentiment but not perhaps the end. Attend the annual wildlife photographer of the year competition at the natural history museum in South Kensington. The 'young wpoty' section always contains fantastic shots that any adult would be equally be proud it was shortlisted for exhibition. Also 'spec' is relative, the market has plateaued because most phones from a few years ago are still good enough
