It just means Huawei have to supply the updates rather than relying on Google to serve them up doesn't it?

I think you are missing the point. Huawei has received bans from three out of the five eyes already with the remaining countries having it under review. And beyond the five eyes there are bans in place with several other countries and network providers as well. Anyway it sounds like you’ve made up your mind already.

So Qualcomm an Intel have now pulled support and supply from Huawei

This could force them to use their own OS they've been working on for a few years now.

The concerns go further and are more nuanced than that.

It is Chinese law that companies have to hand data over to the state. It therefore goes it is not conceivable that Huawei would not comply with such a request. So either there is an actual backdoor (but UK security services have not found one) or there is a real future risk regardless

That is why May has reportedly (according to the Telegraph leak of the cabinet meeting that resulted in the previous secretary of state for defence being sacked) has green-lit Huawei being involved with the 5G rollout in the UK, but on the proviso Huawei are excluded from the "core" parts of the 5G network. Whereas some think it is not technically possible to separate core and non-core parts of the 5G network.

China says it is an economic cold war and Trump trying to harm a Chinese company

There should be a distinction with Apple, Alphabet (Google) and Facebook. They do not pretend not to hold massive amounts of data on users. The difference is they say they do not, and cannot, share data with the US government. Of course the Cambridge Analytica data scandal massively harmed Facebook's reputation because apparently anyone can set up a quiz on Facebook to harvest data, state actor or otherwise

For me as a new P30 Pro owner I think the big downside is the resale value plummeting. I never buy a phone based on what I might get for it when I sell it but I always get a half decent price for them. Nothing I can do, it’s out of my hands. Still a great phone and I don’t keep them long enough to be affected by not being able to put a newer version of Android on them.

Android phones reslae value is poor compared to apple anyway, I bought a 6 week old mate 20 pro for about £200 less than the original owner paid, I've had iPhones and Samsung galaxy phones before this Huawei, and it's a shame this is happening as I wasn't in a rush to go back to them, as the mate 20 pro is a ridiculously good phone

I know Android drops much quicker and steeper than Apple, it's just with this current situation it's really going to tank!

I was looking forward to seeing what the Mate 30 brought, but unless there's a big u turn by Trump I won't even consider it.

Dictatorship at its best, if the UK secret services can't find anything wrong with Huawei then the US shouldn't either, China should retaliate and stop making a boat load of companies tech for cheap, Google is just as bad if not worse than anything Huawei is being accused of.
