3rd Party Lens - false economy?

This sort of problem was one that Sigma lenses used to suffer from with Sony A Mount cameras - older lenses requiring a re-chip when some new model came out.

As I recall, Sigma would do this FOC if the lens was only a few years old (not sure of the exact cut-off), BUT you had to prove you owned the new camera which gave the problem (as well as having bought the lens within a certain time frame).

Hopefully the advent of the USB docks means this is not an issue, unless you have older lenses (as is the case for the OP)

I had a similar experience in my pursuit of a Nikon 70-200 f2.8. I made twice the mistake of going third party, and with Sigma exactly the issues like the OP. In the end I ended getting the Nikon version. In hindsight I wish I did that straight away, saved up for another month or two. I actually would have saved money overall and had earlier enjoyment.

I had problems with the Sigma too, Tamron g2 is supposedly excellent though.
