Social classes certainly don't exist like they used to, it was a lot more black and white back then.
Working class (poor) - manual labour jobs
Middle class (wealthy) - bank managers etc..
Upper class (rich) - Most likely family wealth passed down through generations
There was no room for manoeuvre back in the day, you didn't mix with other classes and that's how it was.
Todays 'classes' are 'perceived classes', people are free to move around in different circles, without (too much) fear of judgement, as long as you're appealing to mix with of course.
But what changes your perceived class? Wealth.
Money attracts money - I believe this will always hold true

Interesting thread this one.
I think the lines between working and middle class are very blurred.
Whereas upper class to me is those born into family wealth, family history such as Royalty or land owners. The gentry for example. Unless you are in it, I don't believe you can move from Working/Middle to upper.
It also doesn't really come down to money, as there are people in what would be considered manual working class jobs such as plumbers, electricians and tradesman who earn a fortune compared to a typical middle class middle management office worker.

Pubs or dinner parties? Twitter has a class war.
Actor Eddie Marsan said he preferred dinner parties to pubs and class war erupted

Interesting Subject.
When I think of modern lower/working class it's the type of people on who could appear on shameless!
We live in a very desirable area but a few of the properties are council/HA owned and the people living in them are anti-social, Benefit cheats, Have kids that are out of control, Happily drink drive even to the school ect!
They are not even shy about it really, So given that basis I would say I am Lower Middle Class.
I try to be decent and set a good example for my kids. My partner stays at home and I work as an self employed engineer in London mostly.

Class.
What is it, really?
It exists, and it doesn't. It's real, yet it's also perceived, projected and often imagined.
Does it really matter?
Or is it more important to have a solid self-respect and belief in yourself?
One thing that's true, you know it when you see it..
