I've got front and rear cams and whilst they've not helped me, they did help a girl who works in my office. Caught a van that hit her car and managed to trace the owner who got her car fixed. In fairness to the van, I don't think they even realised they had hit her car but when shown the video they dealt with it straight away.

If I was a collision investigator I would suggest she drove into the dirt in the middle of the road whilst accelerating too hard, causing her to lose traction.
BMW's are notorious for losing their rear end (when driven incorrectly).
