I read the same article too, so the cars all pass the government standards but given that's on the roiling road with gental acceleration is not realistic driving.

As soon as the cars are put in real world the emissions are all over the place, with some cars still passing and others 10 times the amount.  Some diesels bearing petrol etc

Diesel Particle Filter.   They are supposed to collect soot and trap it so that it gets burnt off under the right circumstances, which is generally a quick blast down a dual carriageway.  Some city cars don't ever seem to need it, some do.  In some cars it doesn't work properly at all and clogs up.

What pees me off is the randomness of the Road Tax brackets.  It appears the car I have has rubbish CO2 emissions,  so I'm shoved into a ridiculous bracket.  But it's far better on the emissions the government is now legislating against than the engine that replaced it.  So if I'd got the next engine, my Road Tax would be half what it is, but I'd be creating more harmful pollution.

My DPF is on 125k miles. Use can use BMW software to discover how many miles your BMW DPF has remaining.

That for me was the main reason why I got rid of my Panny Plasma a few years back.  When I switched it on the electricity meter used to chuckle.

I was looking for a petrol car for much the same reason. However,  I ended up with a 65 plate Volvo V40 Cross Country with the newer D3 diesel, £0 road tax and <8s 0-60.  Am getting about 54-55mpg but I rarely go on long motorway journeys, just a 1 junction blast to work and back 4 days a week along with some short town driving.

Right now I'd buy another Euro 6 diesel again, not sure on the older diesels mind.
