2012 Peugeot 308 Active 1.6 Hdi

Only got it last week, still under warranty so I'll contact the dealer on Monday, (I'm on night shift tonight so will be asleep tomorrow).

After stopping and turning off the engine, you can hear a funny whining noise from the engine for about 5 seconds. Kinda like something was turning but is coming to a stop.

Doesn't happen after a shorter run that I have noticed, only after driving maybe 5 or 10 minutes.

The fan does tend to run for about 5-10 seconds after I stop sometimes but not always and I've been told by a friend that this is normal.

Any thoughts on the noise?

I've got a '62 plate Allure with, I assume, the same engine (it's a cracker by the way, nippy and economic - I haven't managed to "fool" the Start/Stop yet either).
They do take a while to warm up, like most diesels, so it could be fan-related if it's after slightly longer journeys. The fan does run on after stopping sometimes - not every journey, but I wouldn't describe it as a whining noise.

The fan running is separate. The whine is hard to describe!

That aside I'm well pleased so far. I've driven a succession of bangers for years, so an 18 month old car with less than 20k miles is a luxury.

Throw in a few mod cons like bluetooth phone connection and automatic wipers/lights and I'm feeling rather uppity.

Might even sling a pic in the car showroom thread!

The BT connection is excellent for phone.

One frustration I do have is with the USB & BT audio connection. It charges my iPhone OK, and I can play the iPod app through the cable but it occasionally refuses to remember where it was in a Playlist and reverts to the first track in the iPod by Artist name. Same with the BT audio. Only sometimes, not regularly or predictably. It makes listening to audiobooks a real PITA. Grrr!

I enjoy driving it - last summer I went to Edinburgh & back (from Cardiff), 3-up with 6 people's luggage and it cost £100 in diesel. Pretty good I thought.

What Mpg are you getting?

I haven't even done a full tank yet so haven't calculated.

Most of my driving is round town, so with the Start/Stop working I can get around 40-45.

I travel to Swindon regularly (around a 150mile round trip 90% of which is motorway) and I can easily get 55-60. If I take my time it'll nudge 65-70 - these are according to the built-in computer figures.

The 6th-gear feels like I remember "overdrive" being, so that helps. The mid-range pull in 4th & 5th (say from 50-70 & 60-80) is very strong - bearing in mind it's "only" a 1.6 "eco" diesel.

Edit: AND - I almost forgot - it's got a "proper" spare wheel, full-size matching alloy!!

I don't have start/stop. I drive mainly to work and back, about 15 miles each way. I'm hoping for about 60  Mpg. The old 206 was getting about 54.

I get a noise a bit like that on my Mondeo - I suspect it's the fuel pump being cleared as diesel can wax  up.
Someone who knows what they are talking about can correct me.

Power steering pump? The one on my wife's mini used to make a noise when the engine was switched off.
