Been talking to a friend, had a similar issue and it was a pump problem too.

Calling to the garage on Monday anyway.

I think you may find that this noise is perfectly normal....my 407 has made a noise like this for the last 70,000 miles and almost 5 years.

Of course you should get it checked out in case your noise is different to my car.

I'm perfectly happy if it's normal. It's certainly not overly annoying or offensive!

It's just something I've never had before, including 2 previous Peugeots, so better safe than sorry.

I'll report back after the garage check it though.

They're designed this way.
I have the same engine in my Mini Cooper, it has an 'overboost' feature in higher gears.
Basically, the turbo is giving more boost in 5th/6th than it does in lower gears.
Gets around the fact it would be a little weedy in high gears without this feature.

The EGR valve going through a cleaning cycle makes a bit of a buzzing noise when the engine is switched off.
Just for a few seconds.
Could that be it?

Wouldn't call it a buzz. It's not constant, more like creak-creak... creak-creak... creak creak... And the sets of noises slowing each time.

I'm about to drive it to the garage. I'll see if I can do an audio recording when I get there.

Do you use the aircon just now?
Might be the compressor cooling down I suppose.
