Good thing is Jon, by asking questions, watching Andertons vids, listening in a shop and general research, you have learnt a lot in a week about amps!

Thanks for the idea - that's certainly food for thought.  I'm looking at the Pod stuff and I'm trying to get my head around the different models.  If I understand correctly, the Pod Studio models that you linked are basically the same sort of thing as the HD500 (or other) pedal boards, but with two differences:
a) The sound goes out via USB to a computer instead of to a normal guitar amp
b) The interface is managed through software on the PC rather than buttons on the pedal board

All of this is because the Pod Studio is designed for recording and the Pod pedal boards are designed for live performances.  Is that a fair summary?

I shall muse on that...

That's about the size of it, although the UX models are the one's really aimed at recording. The more lowly ones like the Pocket Pod can run standalone as a headphone amp.

But I'm not really up on them, I just have a mate who's absolutely obsessed with technology & has had their stuff for years. He's produced some great recordings with a UX.

Nice pedal board there.

Looks just like my valvestate which also has a 12" Celestion, I can use that at more acceptable levels though

Go for the DT25 J, don't listen to the voice of reason. Far too sensible

I actually suspect that's what's going to happen.  I don't know what I'll do if they offer me €100 off and free finance if I buy the DT25 and the HD500x together...

Actually, I know exactly what I'll do in that case!

Variax after that then, to complete the Dream Rig

And to think, less than six months ago, you never had any intention of even buying another guitar

He used to scoff at us all going on about equipment

I still reckon the Superchamp might win. Unless Dream Rig is really in Jon's thoughts

I've watched the video on the full Dream Rig.  At the moment, I'm not intending to buy a Variax.  I'm not saying that won't change but you all know already what my guitar-buying plans are for the foreseeable future!  However, the HD500X and the DT25 together make a very attractive package - although it's 3 or 4 times the price of the other amps I'm considering.

I'm also breaching my own precept that I should only spend money on equipment that I'm capable of using.   Maybe I should just stick with my current amp for another year or two...

If I lived by that rule, I've got a hell of a lot of gear I need to get rid of

I prefer to think spending money on expensive/complicated gear will inspire me to play it more, rather than be tempted to just leave it sat there doing nothing and maybe inspire me to play better

Hi, have you seen the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister amps? I looked at one the other week in a music shop (just browsing) but it caught my attention as to its tiny size. I already have a H&K Triamp that is far too loud and heavy (30kg!!) for home use (but an awesome sounding amp) so this tiny tube amp caught my eye.

Its very small and it has a Redbox DI output on the back, with a powersoak feature so you could hook it direct into a board without the need for a speaker if needed. It was around the £300 mark, but then you'd need a speaker as well if you didn't want to connect it straight into a desk/board for live purposes. The guy in the shop was raving about good it sounded and how versatile it was for home and gig use.

....just a thought!
