I'm of an age and certainly mind set that puts me firmly into working class and proud to say so. Son a hard working honest coal miner and a nurse. The whole of my family, both maternal and paternal came to the Welsh valleys to work in the coal and iron industries. It's only with my generation of the family that some have gone on to greater things as far as safe jobs and earning potential has emerged. What their children call their class roots is is a matter for them.

I still live in the village where I was born. All my mates consider themselves working class, even the millionaire one. One of them is a freemason, perhaps he's not working class!

All I ever wanted to do in my working life was to help people. Hopefully I succeeded even if it did come at a personal cost. I will always stick up for the low paid, defend their right to take industrial action.

So. Working class and left wing. I'm out of the closet.

On the subject of BMWs, shouldn't it be:

Working class = 3 series
Middle class = 5 series
Upper class = 7 series

???

How come everybody you meet that drives around in somebody else's 3 series, thinks that they are middle class?
