I'm not a fan of the word 'Universal' to be honest (when dealing with adults).

We live in a situation at the moment where your quality of life can be similar whether you work or not. That can't be right.

If the lower paid (which would mean the higher paid earning or taking less) earned more, then everybody would be paying more tax and fewer people would be so reliant on the state.

So you could argue that the rich are creating the subclass that are state dependant and that the parent/government has to step in to make sure the sweeties are shared a bit more evenly due to those greedy & selfish rich people

It would also reduce the often complained about tax burden on the rich by spreading it out more evenly across society

I know Wales is sparsely populated but I didn't realise it had gotten that bad.

I bet if you slashed the highest earners salary by 50% most people would still want it and would work hard to get it if possible.

With just only 26 persons per square kilometre in my area it’s been decreasing steadily since 2010 as people flee the consequences of ‘Conservative austerity’.

Take off benefits like working tax credits & housing benefit and them top earners would have to take one heck of a cut to be in the lower tax bands.

Not if you're just giving it to the lower paid workers for no increase in productivity they wouldn't.

My wife’s school has recently become an Academy, the previous head was earning well over £100k and has been replaced by a new head earning around half of that.  There was no problem finding someone.

Probably no problem employing new people at 50% of the previous salary, but what about the existing ones? Where do they go?

My point was if you reduce a 50% tax payers earnings of 100K by say 20k  Then the taxman loses 10K in tax.  If you give that 20K to say 5 people on average income you only generate 5K in tax.  If you give it to 20 people on minimum wages you probably wouldn't see any of it back as tax.  I can't do the sums to juggle the numbers to see where the sweet point is where the taxman benefits by a reduction in tax credit pay outs, unfortunately, although there may be some pay back there.
