I’m not sure if this is the worse gen, or whether I’m getting old, but I’m seriously considering selling my PS4. My interest in playing has totally disappeared lately, and I have about 15 games I haven’t even started yet! I think part of the issue is that most of those are remakes from the last gen, which I’ve downloaded during the flash sales on the US/Canada PS stores, and not games I *really* wanted. But that’s partly because there’s few games I have really wanted

It has to be this generation for me, microsoft are doing the same old ips to death, nintendo don't have a clue what their fans want and Sony are smashing it but have done so many 'remasters' that they deserve some flak too. I play the most on my xbox because of friends but in all honestly I don't look forward to playing the majority of games I play anymore especially what MS are offering at the time of writing

There have been some disappointments during this generation and they probably stick in the mind because they're more recent, but worst generation? Don't think so. There have been so many positives this gen, some of them have already been mentioned. Think of the rise of indie game development, you can now make and publish games from the comfort of your own home, if you want to.

If you look at the list of 10/10 rated games alone, last generation seemed to produce the majority of those, but it was also probably one of the longest generations of console gaming. There have been some absolutely cracking titles this generation.

I just think the focus has shifted and maybe it's to areas that you're not particularly interested in or have not been as well received. There are certainly some trends that I could do without, that's for sure!

Having said that, I'm not entirely sure which generation you could class as the worst!

Nintendo don't know what their fans want? Despite record fast console sales, ridiculous queues in many countries still to buy one and huge critical acclaim for their games?

Sure.

I'd like a Switch purely for some Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey- literally two games appeal to me on the console, certainly not enough to splash out £300

This generation is terrible, distinct lack of decent new releases and I am sick to death of games from my youth being regurgitated in the form of a bloody remaster.

I think this generation is a weird hybrid of the past meeting future. Ultimately it could end up being similar to what PC gamers have now, eg, being able to play all released games on all platforms going forward. It's also the first time digital is making a real challenge to physical games in the console arena, I can only see physical disk continue to drop in sales for future iterations, especially if the store fronts play their cards right.

Remasters have unfortunately become two a penny, once that door was opened, so many games have run through it. Ports of PC games have come to console in spades and indie games have moved more and more centre stage. There's plenty to be positive about all this, but what is squeezed is dev time on new IP or even new iterations of big game series, leading to delays or half assed day one releases.

But I love the choice you have gaming on console now and for me its the cheapest generation for gaming ever, especially if you're patient. Free to play, subscription games, regular sales and deals, demos, betas, you could pretty much spend zero if you so wished and still bank many hours of gaming a week.

Nothing has gripped me in the last 2 generations except the FromSoftware games.
