Even if you turn autoupdate off.. the set still comes on and looks for an update .. when it find the correct one for the set it then looks at the option ..if you have set NO it will not go any futher and just turn off.. if you have selected yes to auto updates it then downloads it.

This is the way the set it designed to work..

Hope this clarified it

Just tried to update the firmware on my 42xv635db, it gets to the green and orange light then just sits there.

How long is the update supposed to take?

I'm having the exact same problem with my 37XV635.  John Lewis engineer has been out this morning under my warranty and advised that this is happening to loads of Toshiba TV's lately.  He is going to speak to Toshiba and give me a call later on today so I'll let you know what he says.

I've resorted to actually getting off the couch to switch it off on the side of the tv, whatever next!!

Same thing happenning to me. I have the 42av635db and every time I leave it in standby for more than 20 mins it won't turn back on and like other people have reported the only way to switch it back on is to either turn it off and back on via the off switch or by holding down the standby button on the tv for at least 10 seconds to restart it. This happened before back in September last year and was fixed when Toshiba released a firmware update to fix it.

I'm pretty sure delius is right, are you a Toshiba tech by the way? I'm thinking that there's a over the update that is effecting most tv sets where the tv thinks that it's for itself and is trying to update itself whilst in standby but gets stuck because it isn't really for it but for another set. Once Toshiba stop broadcasting that particular over the air update then everything should be fine.

Anyway, I contacted Toshiba support and the guy on the phone wanted to walk me through re-setting the tv but I had already done that as well as downloading the latest firmware and putting it on my tv although it was the same version. I also turned off the auto updates but to no avail. The guy from Tosh support tried to convince me that there was something wrong with my system board and that it might need replacing and that I should contact an engineer as my set was out of warranty. I wasn't having none of it and gave him an earful because my tv is working perfectly fine except for that standby issue. I told him sarcastically that if that's how Toshiba are willing to sort out nationwide problems with their sets then it is very likely that i'd purchase another Toshiba product and the idiot tried to correct me by saying 'don't you mean unlikely' lol.

In the end I told him that I didn't contact Toshiba expecting my problem to be resolved and that I just wanted him to forward the fault to their head office and also to add to the numbers of people reporting the fault. Please, if you are expecting this same problem then get in touch with Toshiba and let them know so that they do something about it.

Just a note to say I'm getting the same thing here with a 32AV635DB - latest firmware.

...and glad to see somebody else's TV is restarting on the porn channel, why couldn't it be cbeebies or something?

I also have an AV635DB, latest firmware - same problem.  I phoned Toshiba Monday and they said that they don't have a fix for it at the moment so, since my TV is over 1 year old, the guy told me I'll have get in touch with the providers of my extended warranty.  I spoke to Allianz ( the warranty provider ) and they said an engineer will have to look at it first to confirm it can't be repaired - once they've confirmed that I may be able to get a replacement.  A lot of aggro and I wouldn't mind betting the replacement has to be a refurb rather than new - so I'd prefer a firmware fix.  Mind you, if I do end up getting a replacement I don't want another Toshiba.
Another interesting point is that this must be caused by the update broadcast ( as mentioned above ).  If you look at DTG :: DTT Receiver Downloads you can see what updates are beeing broadcast this week.  Since the Panasonic update is being broadcast this week and it's a repeat, I guess this must be the one causing the problem?  Maybe the problem will go away next week when the broadcast stops?
