We live in an age where people are taking more and more insane risks for no purpose other than from boredom it would seem. It would be wonderful to see all of these people putting their time, effort and money into something that would actually help people.
Thor Heyerdahl was a man with a theory that the academic world at the time would not give any credence to. He took the ultimate risks to defeat their skepticism. This beautiful, elegant, inspiring movie tells the story of a man with a purpose.
The movie sends electricity coursing through your veins as you watch the challenges that Thor and his crew took on. The story is told beautifully and tautly. I saw it on Friday afternoon and then again on Sunday afternoon. In June 2013 I plan to visit the Kon Tiki Museum in Oslo yet again. I had the thrill of being at a literary luncheon addressed by Thor Heyerdahl and to obtain a book he had just released with his autograph.
He was a hero with a purpose. He represented an almost ideal sense of what it is to be a man in an age today when we seem to try to be getting away from that concept. Courage, vision, determination, humanity, nobleness. There are very few like him. This movie magically captures his essence.
