Currently showing at John Lewis for £599:

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Tablet with S Pen, Android, 64GB, 4GB RAM, Wi-Fi, 10.5" at John Lewis

It appears to have reverted back to a 16:10 display (previous two generations were 4:3). 10.5" AMOLED display with an S-pen.

Storage is upped to 64GB after last year's criminally short 32GB. 4GB RAM (same as last year's).

I'd like to see more onboard storage (my Note 8 is 256GB) and more RAM. £599 seems toppy but the world of Android tablets has slowed down.

Agree although the screen for me on the S4, neither can match that Amoled screen. As well as the fact the Surface is 4:3 ratio so not so good for media.

Guess it depends on what you want from the device.

The Tab S4 has certainly caught my eye.

I've been using the Note 10.1 for both work and play since 2012. The battery is dying, so a replacement that will last another 6 years will be ideal! No price yet on a LTE version, but if the Wifi is around £600, i would think £650-700?
Also, as the keyboard case usally overpriced, can you use Dex without an offical Samsung keyboard?

Is it likely that the S3 will drop in price on the release of the S4?

Would the s4 perform well as a portable media device?  I’m lookong for something that I can take away with me but could play 4k mkv files when connected to a 4k screen.  I read Netflix will support the s4 for 4k hdr playback, but what about YouTube hdr?

It’s either the s4 or a basic laptop with an Intel 8520u processor that can decide 4k.

Samsung Tab S4 4G is £649.00 from Samsung.
If you pre-order yours before 23rd August you can get a rebate for a free Keyboard case, saving you £119. Below is a link to the Samsung web site page, scroll down for the offer.

Galaxy Tab S4 (10.5”, 4G) | Samsung UK

I've got the Tab S2 & it's great for digital magazine reading, being 4:3 aspect ratio,
couple of downsides, video playback means black bars top & bottom (lot of wasted screen space),
& in landscape mode, speakers are both at one end, so no stereo.

Might go for the wi-fi only version cause lots of wi-fi spots around plus will be mainly used at home. Great for iPlayer in the kitchen, esp with the 4 speakers with Dolby Atmos. Should be interesting.
As for DEX, it's built into the tablet now, you just need a usb-c to hdmi dongle to connect to a monitor or TV (not supplied ).With the keyboard case & a bluetooth mouse, it's looks like an interesting proposition. Admittedly, £599 is still a lot of money (for wi-fi version), but that's just the way it goes nowadays.

As far is a can see, it's not got an hdr compatible screen so that point is moot, but the high res & large capacity micro sd card support means it's ideal for movies on the go. That, with the 4 speakers is my main reason for looking into buying one.

I would think so, but the 4:3 ratio display is not great for media (video) consumption, unless you want to read digital magazines as well as watch videos, then in that case the S3 should be a bargain.
