Interesting.. the black on my Lenovo tab 3 yoga plus, which admittedly is a different device with a different screen .  has a black just about discernable from the black of the bezel. Do you have the backlight down low?

And Danny Smith, .. I am not saying that I would object having an option of android N, just that for me it's not a deal breaker. I have it on my phone and it really doesn't matter.

I have played with auto brightness and manually, it just generally doesn't have as deep blacks as the Samsung, side by side at equal brightness I imagine the yoga plus would be much the same if it uses an IPS panel.

Not saying it's bad at all, but next to the Samsung it's not as rich.

Like you say with regards Nougat, I am a sucker for having the latest though even if it's not for long as tech is always being superceded by something new.

Picked up the tab 4 8 for christmas for the little one as she currently uses my old s4. We looked at the kindle 8 kids version but it doesnt have the youtube kiddie app, so that idea went straight out of the window.

So you got the Lenovo for £250 ish, which was more than the S2 was going for? The price of the S2 is a lot more now (like £270 for the 8", £340 for the 10"), how much was it (and 8" or 10")?

Thanks

You need to be careful, the Lenovo naming conventions are all over the place.  You need to check the specs, my model is the one with the 2k screen .. not 1200 x 800  and with the snapdragon 650.. I think processor and 3gb ram memory....  There are other ones, including one with a built in projector, but without the better screen.
I paid 300 euro, and i think the samsung was around 250, .. it might have been on promo.
I wanted at least a full hd screen for reading newspapers. On this the resolution is so good, i think with a magnifying glass i could read a broadsheet Newspaper

They sure are - I've understood your model though, and the price matches what's available in the UK. It's the Samsung S2 that's confusing me - they're a fair bit more than 250 Euros in the UK at the moment.

Been looking for a tablet to replace my Hudl2, which is still amazing, I'd just like something a bit newer now.

So was about to ask for 8" recommendations and spotted this thread.

Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus

This is the one we are talking about, yes?
Now seems to be available for £150 which feels a good price.

Any more new on it, or anything else worth looking at?

I did see a Samsung 8" S2 which looked and felt very nice but it's over 2 years old now, and £230

Reviews of the Lenovo, said a lot of junk on it. 50% used before you even get to play with it, and battery life, perhaps questionable.

(Battery life is something I LOVE)

Or on the other hand a 10" Samsung Tab A for £180
One review of the Tab A said:

"Replaces an older Samsung Tab2 10.1 and this one is just so much more powerful, quicker and user friendly."

So I guess that kills my Tab2 interest

Ohh, I feel lost

Speaking personally, I loved the tab 4 8 plus, however, as I said before the screen is a bit flat contrast wise and the battery life wasn't great compared to the tab 3 8inch I had a year ago, but I guess that is the price you pay for a faster processor.

I returned mind for a second after it kept locking itself mid use and would then require me to enter my password for added security randomly.

The second was okay but started acting the same way so I returned for the Samsung galaxy Tab A10.1 2016.

The battery life is miles apart, I can get a good few days of heavy use out of it, where the Lenovo I struggled to make 2 with less heavy usage, but then it's a weaker processor which if I'm honest I don't notice as the A16 isn't slow to me and it has got a bigger battery. The screen is also richer and more pleasing to my eyes.

The only backstep is the Lenovo had some quality speakers which I do miss, the sound on the Samsung isn't bad but the fact it's not front firing stereo I do miss a tad.

I think the Lenovo Tab 4   10 is better than the 8" though:

I'm thinking of getting 2* the Tab 4 10, but would get the Samsung Tab A 10.1 for less if it was as good.

Thanks.
I've spent the last couple of hours confusing myself!
Annoyingly I like the YogaTab3, it seems to have amazing battery, better screen and even performs better in two out of 3 benchmarks than the newer lower res tab 4.
I like the carry handle stand also.
But it's only Android 6 with no hope of upgrades, and something in my mind just struggles paying out today with new money! for a quite old product.

The Lenovo 4 plus 10" has a bigger battery, but a eeek, glass back, again not 100% about the 10" for in-bed viewing. but I could work around it.

I will admit my Hudl 2 still does what I need. Camera is poor, but not an issue.
Screen is lovely, it's fast enough to do what I need, but the battery is it's let down.

One other issue, is. I did say to myself.... The next tablet I ever get, I want 4g.
As a few times I've taken my tablet with me, and of course no internet, which means it's almost worthless these days.
Not that I want to use that a LOT, but it's nice when you do want it.
Perhaps even for a extra big GPS/Sat nav?

The marketplace right now for new? Android Tablets seems very bad.
You have the really cheap junk ones.
And you have the very high end Samsung ones.

Nothing from Google, and if they do replace the pixel it's bound to be overpriced.

Really struggling here.

Now you say the 8" Lenovo plus battery was not great, well that's put me off.

The  Samsung galaxy Tab A10.1  2016  was another I actually meant to take a look at, as I heard it ran well and had a good battery, which ticked my box's

The 7" is too small for me.
The 8" does not seem to be a UK model.
The 10.1, you have seems to be the one.
Android 6 lollipop

Then there's this dam thing still in my mind:
