Careful with the Curry's version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10. It doesn't have the USB-C port. I asked the Curry's sales bloke about this and he confirmed there was no USB port.

You mean the 8" S2? Currently at £229, the 10" is £299.

I wouldn't expect any version of the Tab A to have usb-c, but they'll have a micro usb. They won't have 'no USB port'.

Sorry, yes, I was not paying attention when I was typing these messed up model numbers

Tab, Galaxy, S, A, whatever

You are quite right. they appear to be identical, other than obviously 8" vs 9.7" screen size & Battery capacity (mAh) 4000 vs 5870

I wonder if the not inconsiderable larger battery 46% BIGGER same CPU & Screen rez so it's just to illuminate the  extra screen size, one would imagine the battery life should be noticeably better (I;m guessing of course)

Money is burning a hole in my pocket! but I still feel now is the wrong time to wait, as either may be due to a 2018 refresh. Unless they have given up on Android Tablets totally and going full bore on chrome tabs?

Actually, saying that.
I am getting the gut feeling, based upon what we are seeing in the shops, or what we are NOT seeing in the shops, together with some articles, which is pretty much hinting that, Chrome OS, which runs Android Apps is the direction we are now, very much heading off into.

I use Google for Email, Calendar, Contacts, Also the much underrated? Google Keep.
(Don't use the office suite as I have Msoft Office 365 for that)

And I have looked at chromebooks fleetingly.
I'm not up to speed on what model to what.
Putting the crazy pixel models aside due to cost. I would be interested if there was something Tablet wise on the Chromebook/Android front.

Optional keyboard?

I don't want a laptop, as that becomes a whole different beast then, than a easy to carry around tablet.

Galaxy Tab A (16)
Galaxy Tab A (17)

What! 1st I heard of a 2017 variant:

News from late last year here:

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) will be released in the US next month, free content on board

Puzzled?

You're not unhappy with your Hudl2, and you're not overly impressed with what's on offer, so I think you should try and wait a few months to see what's coming out. Either add a little to the pot for what's new, or save a bit more when the price of the old stuff drops a bit.

If you do go for something now though, I don't think any of the choices you're looking at will be bad.

I don't think Android is stopping any time soon. If you want to wait until we can see the future, it's going to be a good while.

Thanks. Yes, I know you are quite correct.
To save unnecessary batter drain, I power down cold my Hudl2 which otherwise is almost perfect.
Very robust, Lovely screen, speakers good enough, Camera is poor so I still need to grab my phone for any pics, which is a shame.
It's just as it's powered down cold, it's not a "just pick up and use" thing right now.
So a replacement, at least soon, would be nice.
But yes, I can easy wait.

This may come out the wrong, way when I say this, but money isn't any issue.
I could go out and spend £100 or £1000 would make do difference really, I just have an in-built "Value-Ometer" that makes me look at a £600 Tab 3 and think HOW MUCH !!!!!!
Perhaps I'm just a tight scrooge

There is also a, kind of problem I suffer with. Not sure there is a name for it. But it's along the lines of. If something it too nice, too good, I want to baby it, and handle it with such care I don't get the full use out of something.
Yes, I know it sounds daft to some.
I see people with brand new Galaxy 8  all marked, or just throwing them in with their keys, or dirty oily hands in the workplace, and I can't understand how they can treat something like that in such a way.

My Hudl2 I'm fine with, its strong, robust and in a case that would take a knock.
A Fragile £600 glass tablet, I'd be so worried about getting a mark on I'd be worried to take it anywhere!

Took my about a year  to take my smartphone to work, and I still keep it in it's case, inside a paper sleeve and wash my hands before using it!

I've always looked after my things and try and keep them like new.
It may come from not having much money in the family as a child, so if you broke/damaged something you were not getting another.

I know what you mean, but if money really isn't an issue at all, perhaps get an S2 for £299.

Well £299 isn't crazy money, so just use it like you do with your Hudl.

There's a happy medium between their lack of care for something so expensive, and your ocd

That's ocd.

Nah, you don't break a phone by using it without washing your hands first.

Note: I work in an Engineering Environment, though I am more involved in the Quality/Calibration side of things, but I am called upon in my other roles jump on a lathe, tap a hole, cut metal, so having hands covered in oil is more often than not a daily occurrence.
Hence I'm talking of phones covered in machining oil

As I understand it, The Curry's version has no way to transfer files through a USB port.

But then you have probably looked into this deeper than I, all I can go on is what the Curry's sales person told me.
