i was a Kickboxer for 3 years when i was 26 ish, had several fights won/lost/drawn,

my most nervous fight was an exhibition fight against my sparring partner Gina stone, who tried to knock me out with a spinning back fist pmsl!!!! she later got a british title as did her boyfirend shaun tasker (also my sparing partner and instuctor) im not quite sure how old he was when he got his title but pretty sure he was at least 40 when we trained

so mr ooops keep it going for us oldies mate

I am 42 now, have not trained/found a decent club for years, but would step in the ring anytime, it has to be one of the best feelings i have ever had steeping into a ring being watched be everyone

thinking of taking up tai chi but would still do kickboxing if i found the right club

I've trained bjj for c 7 years (although have not trained much in the last year or so due to work and injuries) and am a purple belt, haven't competed for absolutely years. Done some refereeing in my time both in UK and in Rep of Ireland. Hoping to get back into it (depending on my knee, i've messing my MCL twice in the past and its never been the same)

Trained mma for c 2 years regularly along with the bjj, not much anymore as too much hard work and turning up to work with a black eye etc didn't go down well (that said I tended to get more injuries from bjj than mma). Never competed but cornered fighters, and have privilege to see guys like Dan Hardy when they first started out in mma at shows like cagewarriors etc.


What grades are the other bjj'ers on here?

Only started training BJJ in July to supplement my Judo so am a lowly white belt

I've been doing Muay Thai for over 5 years, I do it to keep fit, it's hard but I enjoy it, lots of gym work, nice and varied stuff. Have broken a rib whilst sparring, a knee to the rib cage did that.

20  years training, done 12 years of TKD (both flavours) and 8 years kick boxing, plus a couple of years off in between.

Done a fair few competitions, never quite been able to take 1st place though.  Got a **** load of 2nd / 3rd place medals/trophies which are of no interest to me.

1st Dan Shotokan Karate, 1st Dan Kyokushinka Karate, 2nd Dan Ashihara Karate, 1st Dan Enshin Karate trained in Karate for many, many years from being very young until I gave it up about 7 years ago as I couldnt commit the time to it.

Used to compete in quite a few full contact local tournaments and fought in the Ashihara World Championship in Denmark although lost a 3rd round fight on points to the guy who went on to win the tournament.

Biggest acheivement was fighting a full contact 40 man for my 2nd Dan Ashihara grading.  40 x 3 minute fights one aftert another with no break with 20 rotating fighters my arms and legs were like bits of pepperami when I finished but the fact I defended myself through it is by far my biggest acheivement and one I look back on really fondly now.

In the last 5 years or so of my training I got my Kickboxing Black Belt and did around 2 years Krav Maga, not Krav Manga as the poll says , a few months of which were being trained directly by the founder Imi Lichtenfeld.

Love my martial arts but life's just too busy now, I used to train 7 days a week straight from work until 10pm every night teaching then training and absolutely loved it.  Keep thinking about going back but at 32 with creaky elbows and knees and a job which needs me to look respectable I dont think my body could hack it any more.

Might have to take up Thai Chi

That’s an impressive resume you have their.
32 isn’t too old to train, I’m a lot older and have just returned to training myself.
Maybe you could try BJJ as its totally different to the Karate you’ve already done and you spend most of the time lying on the floor so its relatively easy on the body
