I'm sorry, but it is, otherwise why bother scoring a fight?

Its something ive definitely considered, I always liked the close quarters part of Krav Maga and know that its a weakness in my defence with doing so much Karate and Kickboxing.

I've done Shotkan Karate and Wado Ryu for many years and have also tried Jeet Kune Do. I've just started reading the MMA thread as I like the UFC, Machida is my favourite fighter of course

I started Wado-Ryu Karate at 10, got my 1st Dan at 16 and 2nd Dan at 18, and then gave up at 20.  14 years later and I've gone back to training at the same club under my original instructor (about 3-months now) Slowly re-learning all the old Katas and blocks - Oyho's, Kihons etc.  Will probably give it a year or 2 before I even think about 3rd Dan.

I was never really into Kumite comps (although could hold my own) but preferred Kata comps which I won a few regional ones in my youth.

Started martial arts at 10 y/o and got my ECKA (kickboxing) black belt when I was 17 and started instructing. Packed in when I was 21ish. Saw UFC 1 when I was 25 (1995) and was blown away by Royce Gracie so I bought a Gi and started doing Jiu Jitsu (Tai jutsu kai). Won the 1997 national Jiu jitsu kumite championships at 95kg.

Jiu Jitsu Kumite was the closest thing to MMA at the time and is basically a Karate match until you grab your opponent's gi, at which point it effectively becomes a grappling match without strikes. Got my arm broke in 98 after being slammed at tourney and decided to pack in comps as it almost cost me my job.

Started BJJ at Gracie Barra Birmingham around 2001 and realised that my ground game was a lot weaker than I thought it was. I was training there 2-3 times a week with Braulio Estima which was awesome. I got my blue belt and stopped training there after a couple of years.

I've been training on and off since then in no gi and MMA. I'm currently training twice a week, one no gi bjj session and one MMA session. Still absolutely love grappling and will do it as long as my back holds out, which may not be that long as I've recently turned the big 40!

kickboxing for the last 4 years and love it, turning 40 soon, just wished id started when i was younger, which is why ive got my 7 year old lad doing it too, he's been training a year, and has gone from being bullied at school and withdrawn to a confident and out going lad, if anybody has a son/daughter who lacks confidence, picked on at school i would recommend them join a class.

Never even realise that there was a sports forum and mma threads on here.

I have been training alsorts of martial arts on and off since my early 20's.  I initially started off with the dream of competing in mma.  When I started off I just had to make do with local traditional martial arts and take all the useful stuff away with me.  Recently in the last 4or5 years there seems to be MMA clubs cropping up everywhere which gave me the drive to go and train with some great competitors who have fought all over the world.  I used to train for fun as I am a fitness instructor the last thing I want to do is go in to the gym after i have finished my shift thats why I drill, roll, grapple and sparr to keep fit and healthy.
I never used to have the drive to compete but unfortunately 18 months ago I snapped my ACL whilst grappling (heel hook ouch!)  I waited around for so long to have the operation that when I finally had the operation I was so keen to get back to training I stupidly started back training 2 months after my op.  Now I just stick my name down for any comp gi or no gi.  In the last month or so I have etered a BJJ comp, a Lute Livre comp and had an amateur mma match.  I am looking to move to the next level soon I am 30 next year I hope I never suffer with a another serious injury but if I ever do I will never have any regrets I had the balls to step up and I always give it my best shot!
Would love to train a bit more than what I do but 2 kids and a wife does make it difficult to devote time!
