At the risk of getting flamed (and I swear this is not meant as a troll), I'm a bit over Reacher!

I just think they're getting a tad samey..... (grabs coat and exits stage-left)....

Yes I think you're right. If Reacher wasn't such a great character and the books weren't so well written, I'd have packed in with them a couple of books ago.

I'm sure that Lee Child said that he was going to write 20 Reacher books and then leave it at that. Mind you he also said he pictured Reacher looking like Lawrence Dallaglio but still managed to sell out to a pretty boy dwarf

Robert B Parker has done some great character series books. The Jessie Stone books (turned into great made for TV films starring Tom Selleck) and Spenser series which pretty much defines the tough guy detective novels.

A mix of books mentioned above with some being close to pulp fiction, reminiscent of the 90s executioner books, utterly lacking in any kind of plot.

Agreed with Baldacci and in many ways, his John Puller is a lot more entertaining than jack Reacher who as a previous poster pointed out, has become rather formulaic. I would also include Brian Haig's very funny Sean Drummond series, about a sharp witted JAG attorney. Very much an action series rather than a court room drama.

Eric van Lustbader, man, that's a name that I have not heard in many years. Back when I was young and not in this part of town, his books had an 18 age restriction.

1 for Tom Wood and Barry Eisler

-1 for Andy McNab, Chris Ryan and Vince Flynn. Vince Flynn starts to read like an ad for the republican party.

When I saw the title of the thread I thought I recommend Scott Mariani 'Ben Hope' series. I started a bit late in the day with The Amanda Legacy and just finished The Nemesis Program at weekend which that latter I think would make a great film and sort of straying into Bond and Dirk Pitt territory its one apart from a few pages one the action gets started never lets up. I have the two follow ups but don't want go though them too fast so reeding a few other books before I get to The Forgotten Holocaust.
