Excellent thread! I wonder if anyone can help me though.  I have an extraordinary amount of spots, the downlighter kind.  I replaced them all with the GU10s, one by one they have all gone out, till I'm left with none.  When I flick the light on, they come on for a milisecond, then out again.  Every now and again, a random one comes on.  Any ideas people?

Sorry, your post is unclear.  GU10s *are* downlighter spots.   So what did you replace with GU10s?  Are you saying you replaced tungsten GU10s with LED GU10s?
Exactly what downlights did you replace with what GU10s?

Hi, thanks for your reply.  You're right, tungsten to LED.  Someone said that the transformers are too powerful?

That could be it, but then LED GU10 replacement bulbs are designed to replace Tungsten GU10s, so they *should* work.
What make and model of GU10 LEDs did you use and where did you get them from?   And how many did you use?  And are they all in one location?

Sorry, actually the GU ones are in the strip spot and they are ok.  It is the MR12 as shown here:  New 3W 3x1W GU10 MR16(12V) LED CooL/Warm White Light LED Bulbs/Lamps Spot Light | eBay

Sorry again, didn't answer the other questions.  I have 9 in the lounge, all but one don't come on anymore.  But last night I got a fitting put in the centre replacing one, and one of the leds lit up.  In the kitchen I have 9.  One has gone, but the lights in there are not on for so long I think.

Well it's either the bulbs or the transformers/fittings which have failed.
I would swap the bulbs round (with tungstens and in to different rooms if possible) to narrow down what is and isn't working.
Those are really cheap bulbs.  Wouldn't choose those myself.

Gu10 led lamps are a straight swap and run straight off the mains. Mr16 and other low voltage fittings run off a transformer that transforms the mains power to 12v, to run an mr16 led you will need to install and led driver to each fitting.

That's not what I do   I use the existing transformer but leave one halogen bulb in place to keep the transformer happy and replace the others with LEDs.  Not ideal but seems to work OK.
