Some LED lamps will work on a standard transformer but a driver is advised. We advise a lot of customers these days to just take out the transform, wire straight to the fitting and change the mr16 lamp holder over to a gu10 lamp holder. That way they are able to purchase gu10 LEDsLEDs that are cheaper than mr16 LEDs and they have no worries about reducing the life of the lamp.

I bought these:

10 GU10 Lamp Holder Base New Regulation Bulb Connector 240v GU10 Mains Holders: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

I'm replacing them gradually as the mr16 transformer or bulb gives out.

Needed a new kitchen light and bought the Ikea Fuga

FUGA Ceiling spotlight with 4 spots - IKEA

Loved the look but was also happy it used GU10 which meant I could swap them out for LED ones instead. They arrived today and swapped them over, absolutely amazing, 5W per bulb and its like daylight in there.

Definitely going to change more around the house now, what are the LED GLS bulbs and such like? Worth swapping over my normal bulbs, if so what kind of comparative wattage do I need to replace say a 60W or 80W traditional bulb?

Hi, my wife has a hairdressing salon which currently has 12 hi spot 95 bulbs. They are 75w and 30 degree spread these are 2900k and give out 424 lumens. I have been looking for a energy saving equivalent but she is worried the wont give the right light for her to see properly. I have found some Phillips led bulbs that look like they would do the job as they are 12w, 2700k and give out 630 lumens, but they are £51 each, so at over £600 I don't think the savings in energy would be worth it. Does anyone know of any cheaper bulbs that would be suitable.

I bought a £55 12w Philips Led for our outdoor Victorian lamp.   It's now in its third winter.  Use the calculating spreadsheet (I posted in this forum) to figure out when you will break even on your £600 investment.
@Lobsterboy1 have you got a link to those LEDs?
These the same?  Philips 12W MASTER LEDspots PAR20 2700k 25deg: Amazon.co.uk: Lighting

Hi Stuart these are the ones I saw Philips 12watt ES E27 Screw Cap 2700K 25 Degree Equivalent to 75watt PAR 30 | The Lightbulb Co.. They look like the ones you linked to on amazon, but amazon are a massively cheaper so thanks for that. I will have a look at the calculator you posted the see when I will break even, should be a lot quicker with amazons price. Cheers

Just been looking at the ones on amazon again and they are sold by the same company as the ones I linked to. Crazy that they are selling them nearly half price on amazon as their own website.
