Out of interest, did you try setting the [LED Backlight Control] to on?  Mine is currently set to HIGH and this improved black levels considerably.  They did look a little grey before doing this.

I have been lucky enough to win a 42wl863b that is being delivered tomorrow, I must say I am very pleased after reading this thread and the review on this site of the TV, it all seems to be very positive.

It is going to be a marked difference to my existing samsung 720p 37" set.

For thos of you who are looking for 3D glasses I just bought couple of pairs from here at £49 .97 each Toshiba FPT-AG02G Active 3D Glasses FPT-AG02G - Televisions and TVs from Direct TVs It was difficult to find them in stock at a reasonable price.

Haha! just checking because I actually didn't do this first off.  I have to say I have no backlight issues whatsoever and the blacks are superb.  Do you have any pictures that may show your problem?

Hi steve, shortly, this TV has much more positive features than cons.
Pro (imho):
- good overall quality on SD contents, stunning performance in HD;
- efficient motion compensation;
- many configuration settings to play with, you can work on them to reach a plasma-like image reproduction;
- eye-candy set, quality finish and materials;
- usb recording feature (pvr) works fine (even though in proprietary format on *nix partition);
Cons (imho):
- 3D performance far from perfection, specially on SBS reproduction;
- minimal "smart" function, this set is actually a not-so-smart tv

These are notes you can easily find in almost any review on the net; I can add two cents, based on my experience with this set:
- wireless antenna is really a crap of hardware, or maybe it's just misplaced on the electrical board; it gets a LOW intensity signal from a wifi router which is just 1,5 meter far from the Tv. If you can, go for the wired connectivity.
- DLNA support, as always for Toshy's tv, is really minimal. You can off course use a DLNA server with transcoding capabilities, however, this set supports a minimum set of formats.

I must be one of the only ones who gets a 'GOOD' signal on my wifi

My router sits only a few feet away from the TV and given the fact how little I will be using it doesn't cause me too much concern.  Is there any way of getting the audio to output to the AV Receiver when being played in 'Toshiba Places'?

Have you got any settings you can post, specifically the combination of backlight/brightness/contrast?
Coming from plasmas I'm slightly confused and can't help thinking I'm not getting the best out of mine.
