Hi folks, I've an Asus x470 Pro mobo. This is a new build in a corsair air 540 case, msi vega 56 gpu, ryzen 2700x cpu, gskill 16 gig ram, 1tb ssd,Windows 10. Psu is evga 850w gold.

From the onset, this build has a staggered boot, in that, it winds up for 1 second, clicks off, then three seconds later boots up and stays on. I've contacted Asus, who state its not supposed to do that. They suggested clearing the cmos, which I did, actually replaced the battery, and still same boot sequence. I've checked all the cables, they are seated firmly in the mobo.

Has anyone had an issue like this, or any suggestions to fix it? I've attached pics of the front panel case power connectors, in case I've them in wrong.

I thank you in advance.

Your header connector is right and there's only one way to fit on MB.

Could be a MB or PSU issue and you another would need to try another PSU to be sure.

Do you get any beeps on the 1st boot?

Is your SSD sata or M.2. If sata just try it plugged into one of the other sata connectors. Also if you have a spare sata cable you should try that too.

Yeah that is odd, I've seen that kind of behavior over the years on mobos, usually related to the bios like a firmware update or some kind of issue with startup were you changed the RAM then it boots up detects change then restarts & boot correctly but it only does this once.

If feeling brave disable any bios/UEFI system checks on startup ? load safe defaults too to see what happens.

Thanks for the replies folks. I tried one stick of ram at a time in each slot. Now if I DON'T, cut power from the psu switch, the boot is as should be. However if I DO, cut the power it staggers the boot. It done this with one slot at a time, and conversely, when I don't cut the power it boots first time.?

From what you are saying in your last post it sounds like the rocker switch on PSU could be faulty or PSU itself.

You mean the power switch at the back? I always turn the PC off from the wall and leave the psu switch on. I'm not getting any random cuts in electricity, as in it just switches off. If I restart the PC, it boots first time. Could a faulty psu cause micro stutters, on any program, chrome, kodi, vlc, outlook etc?

Sorry there's some confusion here as you said you are getting what you call staggered starts.

Yes a faulty PSU could cause such happenings. Doubt if its got anything to do with anything on the PC.

You need to narrow down the problem in logical steps. So can you try using the rocker switch, yes on back of PSU, to see if that alters anything when you start.

It does seem to alter the staggered boot sequence, in that, if I turn it off, or indeed, cut the electric from the main plug, I get a staggered boot, if I turn off pc, and don't switch any electric off, ie the rocker switch or the main plug, it boots first time.

Did you mention turning off the pc at the wall to the support team.

Do the power button on the pc supply and wall give the same results?

I suspect you are actually seeing normal behaviour as these days pcs leave power on to ports etc.
