Having just returned from watching this superb movie, I would like to comment on its many wonderful aspects while the experience is fresh in my mind. My wife and I knew nothing of the movie before this morning so these thoughts are "pure"-if that is a modestly correct word to use for them. I read, after having seen the movie, a review from the local paper tacked on the bulletin board of the theatre and the review, although on the whole very positive, still took the movie to task for the failure of Hunt to step into her part. According to the reviewer she still played Hunt and therefore did not produce the standard of acting depth necessary to instill veracity to the role. I, on the other hand, thought that her interpretation was superb-even with an American accent and the transposition of Wilde's 1893 English setting to the Amalphi coast in Italy only provided a richer palette for the cinematographer, Ben Seresis, to work his considerably magic. As I have said about other movies, I am much more taken by the visualness of movies that about acting or scripts and this film was perhaps the best that I have recently seen with regard to its cinematography. I was totally captured by the shot selection of Barker's direction as well as the beautifully, flowing editing of Neil Farell-something not to be down-played when adapting a stage play to a motion picture.

I enjoyed the beauty of this film and I would urge people who particularly enjoy cinematic imagery to see this particular film. Beyond the cleverness of Wilde's original dialog, the substance of the visual experience will leave with you as you exit the theatre.
