Curse this thread. I've managed to stay away for a few days, and now I've returned to it, I just bought:

Avengers: Disassembled
House Of M
X-Men: The 198
X-Men: Endangered Species
X-Men: Deadly Genesis
X-Men: Messiah Complex (I actually have the 1st editions and variant covers for each issue this graphic novel comprises of!)

and

X-Men: The End Trilogy.

Edit: How many times am I going to curse this thread? That's twice so far.

Ok, for anyone who has been reading X-Men from the mid-late 90's/early 00's, the above will bring you square up to speed with the modern stuff. Not entirely, mind, for instance,  but some mahooosive stuff happens in House of M, which begins in Avengers: Disassembled. There are some other novels set after House of M which tie in with the "Decimation" storyline which The 198 is a part of, and without these there's a sense of "missing something", but you should get the general idea from the books above - some excellent story and artwork, too.last time I heard of Emma Frost she was a bad guy, but now she's running Xavier's with Cyclops,

Good article by Jonathan Ross for the older comic book fan in today's Guardian, on the truly great Jim Steranko.  It must be getting on for 40 years since I've seen the 3 or 4 Nick Fury, Agent of Shield  comics drawn by Steranko but I can almost remember every single frame in the books, the comics themselves were falling apart from the number of times I read and absorbed them.  As fantastic as Kirby and Ditko were (and Wally Wood and Eisner) none of them had such an effect as Steranko (with all his faults; who cares!) on some of us who were reading Marvel back in the 60s.

Hey guys,

Can anyone give me a list of the order to read the Green Lantern Saga: Blackest Night / Brightest Day.

I know it involves some Sinestro corps GN's as well but I'm confused on where to starts.

Thanks in advance

Neil

So I've now read Vol 1 of DMZ, Y: The Last Man, Preacher and Civil War.

I'm thinking I might carry on with DMZ and Y: The Last Man and leave the other 2 for a while as I can't afford to shell out for too many volumes at once.
