If you think  that giving the State the 'power to coerce and repress' is going to be restricted to race hatred then all I can say is that you are woefuly inexperienced

Seriously?  The State using available powers, including a new Race Relations Act, for the good of all members of society is actually a bad thing?

I think Andrew Marr is a waste of space, especially the way he's danced around other interviews, but whoever dug up this article in response to his ridiculous grilling of Farage needs to find more things to fill their time.  Then again, it's clearly pushed the right buttons for the target audience.

Edit:  Take a look around Europe - in Hungary we have the State controlled by Victor Orban who has some very strange ideas. So the idea that people like him should be allowed to repress what other people believe in has no place in the 21st Century I would suggest.

Again, that specific article, not Orwell's 1984, is specifically discussing inner-city race crimes in the wake of Stephen Lawrence's murder.  His mother was quoted as saying that school education has to be the starting point for teaching people to integrate and live alongside others, regardless of their race/skin colour.  Marr then commented to say that the State should crack down hard on racism to stamp it out.  I'm still struggling to understand why you think stamping out racism is a bad thing, just because it's someone's 'natural belief'?

It's an opinion piece, written by a clearly dramatic writer, that's now being held up as a means to show, "Marr Bad, Farage Good" by Farage's dutiful followers and they're all lapping it up.

Education camps, gulags... How exactly will the state repress beliefs it doesn't like and how will it coerce people to have the right ones?

The Race Relations Act was implemented in 1965, which is what I took the article to be referring to, as it's written in it.

What's with all the fears of State oppression?  We have numerous laws to 'stamp out' behaviours, this is just talking about another one.

The question of belief/behaviour is muddying the water.  The article, which was specifically/selectively referenced in the original tweet, was talking directly about racism/racial attacks/prejudice.
