IMO, schools should actively be promoting the diverse types of humans the world contains. Teaching tolerance suggests there is a baseline, or standard, model of human, and that deviations from that norm should be tolerated, or at best, welcomed, but still relies on the trope that there is a standard that is deviated from. There is no "standard", merely an average.

LGBT row teacher 'threatened by parents'
A primary school teacher says he has received threats from parents amid protests over teachings about LGBT rights and homophobia.
Demonstrations against the classes have been held outside Parkfield Community School in Alum Rock, Birmingham.
Assistant head Andrew Moffat, who is gay, said he had received "nasty emails" and threats, including one which warned he "wouldn't last long".

The only resistance to this is from parents trying to protect themselves from embarrassing conversations with children who lack the sexual and taboo hangups that their parents grew up with and never grew out of.
